You don't have to do anything else. When 4-in-a-row pops up, and I don't want to do it, I just don't pick a tile.
When Rescue Buddies pops up, and I don't want to do it, I just exit before I'm matched with someone.
You can just ignore the Weekly Contest and Candy Hunt popups.
You don't need to worry about the other stuff if it doesn't interest you.
