As @Yosca said as well @Stephen_Ward, while my responses here may seem generic it is because I'm responding to several people at a time, but I am actively talking with the studio regarding this. It seems like this issue in particular seems to be a bit more of struggle to find and fix.
While the event is down, it's not as good as the event itself, but I hope that everyone is logging in for their daily gift at least in the meantime while they work on fixing it!

I wanted to ask for this piece of information! You mention that you were notified that a player had chosen a task - was that via a notification in the game such as a pop-up or did you see a ❗️ in the activity hub?
And did the event disappear for you completely in the Activity Hub?

Sorry for this late answer.
I received an app notification on my mobile. So it was outside the game.
When I logged in the app on Monday, the game icon was blurred, with "come back later" although the board I was playing on Sunday had not been completed.
The activity is now working fine.

Hey there, have you checked that you don't need to update the game? It sounds like it either can be an update or cache problem, follow these steps:
- Restart: Force close apps and restart your device.
- Updates: Check that you have the latest game and device updates.
- Connection: Use WiFi instead of cellular data.
- Clear Cache:
- 🤖 Android: Settings > Apps > Candy Crush Soda > Storage > Clear Cache
- 🍏 iOS: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data
