Why is there a 3 day waiting period before the game will resume? I hit the roadblock at level 60, but I don't want to ask friends or buy anything to advance. Why do they make us wait so long to resume play?

Just connect the game to Kingdom and you should be able to pass the road block fast.
"Kingdom is gives all players the opportunity to play with others and send/receive help. This means you can get extra lives, extra moves and help unlocking new episodes from other Kingdom co-players without having to pay or rely on asking friends through Facebook.
You don't have to have a King account in order to be part of the Kingdom, but if you do decide to complete your Kingdom profile by adding an e-mail and password, you will also be able to sync your progress between devices and platforms."
