Role at King: Technical Level Designer
Level in your favorite King game: I play King games directly from our level creators/editors, so I don’t keep a progression in the actual games.
Personal fun fact: I also really love creating things outside games. Like knitting and wood carving!
🍓 How long have you been working at King?
Two and a half years!
🍓 Do you like being a Kingster? Why?
I love being a Kingster! We’re like one big family that always supports each other.
🍓 How are new levels tested before they are released?
Once a level has been created, the rest of the level design team in Farm will also play through it to give feedback. Together we make changes and test it until we think the level is fun and challenging.
🍓 Where do you get the inspiration to make new levels from?
I get inspired by my co-workers in the Farm team and other Kings games. Sometimes an idea of a level pops into my head from nowhere, and sometimes I try to experiment with shapes and combinations that I haven’t done before. I’ve made hundreds of levels in my time here, but I still find inspiration for new levels. There are just so many combinations!
🍓 What are your tips for someone who has recently started playing the game?
Many of our levels can be played with different strategies. If you struggle with a level, you can try to focus your matches on another target or another part of the board. A change of strategy can really help!
🍓 Do you ever get stuck in a level? If so, what do you do?
Yes, I do get stuck in levels sometimes. When I’m stuck, I try to find other strategies, or I reach out to people I know are good at the game to see what strategy they have. If I get really close to beating a level I’ve been stuck on for a while, I might also use a booster.
🍓 What’s your favorite game mode and why?
I really like both making and playing sheep levels! It’s really satisfying to see them happily disappear from the board, and they are cute! 😃
🍓 Can you tell us if there will be any future surprises regarding levels, blockers, and modes?
The Farm Heroes team has a lot of exciting plans for this year, and I can’t wait for you to see them! We just released level 5000 this year, that is quite a milestone for us!
🍓 What does Community mean to you?
I really value the feedback we get from the community, both when we have done something good and if there is something we can improve. It makes me happy to see you give each other advice and help each other out. It makes me proud to see our work being interacted with!
🍓 What else would you like to tell your players?
Thank you for playing our levels and games! ❤️ After all, our work is for you, the players. It makes me so happy to see that something I’m working on can bring enjoyment to so many people!

Hi @Sara_Kson and welcome to our farm community!
I have a couple of questions. And I know I'm a mod but I'm also on the side of the players so I am asking this for them primarily. So forgive me for being brutal but we are often asked this so I think it would be beneficial for them 😁 And for us going forward.
The farm team long ago told us that they don't test levels themselves so clearly that's changed.
How would you respond to the players on the newer levels that are constantly having to use boosters just to pass? I know you talk about strategy but in our Facebook group there are several players who've played the game since the beginning and stuck with it but have run out of boosters. Some quit, some have paused the game and even one of our farm mods who is on the top levels and knows about strategy has said the levels are too hard. I know they are the elite players but as you respond to player feedback and often make the levels easier afterwards....do you think that the testing team maybe find it easier as they make the game? You say you work with the team to make them fun and exciting but do you ever interact with the players to ask them how they feel?
I know years ago king outsourced a bunch of levels to regular players to play 40 times and record their thoughts about the levels and they were changed depending on what they said. Does that still happen or do you have more playing Kingsters now? That might have been when the levels weren't tested like they are now.
Also I know the older levels are often revamped to keep them fresh and new. Which as a blogger is a major headache and so I am only half way through the game (because of constant changing videos) what makes you decide to change a level? Some have had entire episodes just switched numbers but the worst is when there had been a super hard level with a lot of complaints because it's too hard and then we get complaints that it's become even harder. Is that just a mistake, the computer or rancid has been left in charge of the office?
And finally is every level tested and can be passed still without boosters? I ask this because a while ago we were lucky enough to talk with a bunch of kingsters and I mentioned a level that you had to use a booster on as you needed a seed that was trapped behind a water bucket and they changed it really quickly as they hadn't realised.
I know the old way of thinking was that all could be played without paying and just patience (nobody said anything about having any hair left) but then somebody said that now we get more boosters free that it no longer applies. But that seems a shame for those players who don't find the game so easy. Can we still keep encouraging players with telling them they don't have to rely on boosters?
Ok so question time over now.
but can I just say, I don't know who was in charge of changing the chickens but that makes the game more fun now!

@Sara_Kson, It is very nice to meet a designer for Farm Heroes Saga! I have enjoyed this game for several years, even reaching the end of the map at one time. Now, I don't play as often because I feel that the newer levels are hard to win without boosters and I don't spend money on games.
