There was a tournament with a real money prize just last month. Only 10 out of millions of participants will get something though, so it was extremely hard to reach the final, with many complaining of having "bots" in their groups. The game currently has a little over 15,000 levels. 1k down, 14k to go. Have fun! 👍

Do you see the event icon in your Events tab? If you don't, then you're probably not selected, as the event is not available to every player, unfortunately.
