Don't use the paint pots too soon.
Paint groups of blocks to connect as many cages as possible
Eliminate columns- When a column is eliminated, other columns fill in the empty space in the bottom row. Try to eliminate columns strategically so that same-color cages in the bottom row become connected and can be eliminated.

It can be annoying that you only buy hammers with your coins but that's just that...you can't! I was stuck on this level as well and this video really helped me through it and it seems to have helped other people as well who have commented on the video...hopefully it helps you as well?
