Here are my observations for Level 7980 (it is what worked for me)
Pets won't fall unless the virus blocks have got to the bottom row.
Pets fall in 3 columns (2, 5 and 8 )
They will only fall if you make a match with blocks (not virus blocks)
Once you have some falling in a column, try to keep them coming by matching blocks -
