It "should " work, but I wonder if it was confused as you'd previously had the adverts and it hasn't updated somewhere. the best thing to do I think (and I'm sorry about this) is contact player support from within your game, they can have a look at the account and see if they can see anything amiss. I can't promise they will give your gold back but if you ask nicely, you never know!
Hmm, thanks for that explanation but why do they show an option that doesn't work? I know I didn't click on the option to buy moves as I never got any extra moves. I appreciate your time in answering my question.

Ok so the adverts are not available to everyone (I have never had them) so they might come and go.
The reason why you lost gold bars was because the advert has gone, and everytime you lose the level, it gives you an option to buy extra moves with gold bars. So when you don't have the advert, you are getting the standard pop up. So always be careful clicking 🍂
It popped up at the end of a failed level to get more moves.
