why can't I send lives to my top friends

My friend & I have the mobile app for the game downloaded. With its recent update, the ability to give lives to individual players, in each level, has disappeared. I can still give lives to a group of people when I first open the app, but that is it. We don't use Facebook to play. My friend doesn't even have Facebook. What do we have to do?

The feature to send Lives on a level's top score list has been removed to make some space for a new feature that is coming soon!
You can still send Lives to your friends through the pop up when opening the game and when they send you a request for help.
