Never delete and reinstall your game, if you have boosters. Doing that deletes them. Only gold is saved. Boosters are saved in your device's memory, so removing game removes boosters. So your previous boosters are likely gone. Why you don't get new I don't know. I have a vague memory of trying this once too, so maybe…

You now currently have the game version where you can now double-tap any booster on the board, and it activates on its own.
