Pyramid is one of my favourite games, I had 2 reward rounds one after another shortly after I started playing this morning. The reward rounds are random, like you I also find they appear when losing lives, but also even if you don't (like mine this morning) however I do notice they appear more (if not always) on hard levels, I seem to get quite a few of these.
