You can't pause the unlimited lives timer. I get what your saying but I think you have the wrong idea, those unlimited lives you get included with the packages are an added bonus to what you are actually paying for.

As long as you actively connected your game to either Facebook or Kingdom previously, your progress will be saved and synced to it. If you did, when you reconnect to that account in the game again, the progress from the point where it was last synced will come up.

It looks like it was removed since it was not being played by most people, it's not surprising since once you get far enough in the saga the levels are already pretty damn difficult to complete anyway which kind of made Dreamworld irrelevant.
