I love it too but lately the Free Switch became a bit rarer on all platforms. Expedition Events give out one too.
Something off topic but the Expedition Events starting from Machine Meltdown give the proper rewards when you get the Silver and the first Gold chest, no longer incorrectly giving out the Bronze and Silver chest rewards.

If a rich guy buys too many boosters by real money, this MUST create an unfair advantage over other participants 😂🤣🤣🤣

Blue candies?

I would hazard a guess that since blue is one of the 4 base colors, it would make for easier and more predictable number of event candies per level.
As for the date I highly suspect there is a requirement that x number of months have to pass between the end of the event and the live event such that passports and such can be realistically obtained. Much easier to move the in game event.
No break this spring I guess, right into the pre event I suspect.
