Dear Community,

 May is Accessibility Month in the Community, and we've been introducing you to some of our ambassadors for accessibility here in the Kingdom. Today, it's time to know a bit more about...

@_hector_  !

👩‍💻 Position at King:  QA Specialist

🌏️ Where are you from? Valencia, Spain

😂 1 fun fact about yourself?  I appeared once in Spanish and Japanese television in the same month

💙💚💛🧡💜

Why are you interested in Accessibility?

One of the first video games I played was perfectly dubbed and subtitled in my language. This was the first time I realized there are ways to make players enjoy an experience and feel the same emotions if the product is modified beyond the original design.

What does accessibility mean to you?

That was a case of good localization, but there are many other ways to reach out to people who can’t enjoy the whole experience. To me, accessibility is all about drifting away from the idea that there is a prototypical player with a particular vision, hearing, range of mobility or cognitive conditions; it’s about creating fun for all.

What is one project related to accessibility that you have worked on?

Although I studied different situations related to accessibility, I haven’t had the opportunity yet to work on an accessibility project inside a bigger project.

Tell us a fact about accessibility that we might not know about

Most people not aware of accessibility issues think that accessibility just improves the experience for some players, but it definitely can be the difference between having an enjoyable game or making it unplayable for a range of users. There are scenes where a bomb has to be defused cutting the right cable, there are games where menus are all red or green, matchmaking games sometimes are unplayable from the get-go and, while some shooter games punish teamkilling, there is a lot of "accidental team-killing" related to players not being able to tell the difference between enemy and friendly name tags.

As you see, it’s not about changing the whole game, it’s about including more and more people at the early stages of design and development.

That's really inspiring, @_hector_ ! Thanks for sharing this with the Community ❤️
