  • Happy International Translation Day. I never realized how many different days we have to celebrate until I joined the community. This is what I love about the community they teach you so many different things

  • I definitely understand the importance of a good translator/translation. I work in the medical field in the US and at one practice I was at we had a Refugee Clinic. We had patients from all around the world coming to America and most didn't understand/speak any English at all. I'm a people person and I downloaded Google Translate to my phone to help me communicate with my patients while preparing them to see our doctors. I learned that there were far more languages and dialects than I had ever known, many of which were not available in Google Translate. We had an interpreter service that we could call and place on speakerphone for the doctors' visit. Even still, some things got lost in translation because some terminology doesn't exist in other languages.

Also, never underestimate the power of non-verbal communication. Obviously this only counts when you're face-to-face (and face masks right now are making this harder) but still. Another thing to consider is sign language. Small jokes for example don't necessarily translate well or could be offensive without background knowledge.

  • Happy International Translation Day.

Hi @Spinnifix Happy International Translation Day

This is another wonderful, important topic๐Ÿ˜„ As you know, Iโ€™m fluent in French and English thank goodness ๐Ÿ˜… it makes my job a lot easier ๐Ÿ˜ I use a translator only when I visit the German and Spanish communities and I find it difficult to follow everyoneโ€™s conversations. Iโ€™m on my phone and I use Bing.com/translator ( @ndaoz this is the one I use, I find it better then Google Translate ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ)

I go on the site, Translate from English to German come back and paste it, but before I post it, I copy my message and go back to the translator and have my message Translate from German to English just to see if itโ€™s still the same message I wrote. I do this because like Peggy said, sometimes the translator get it wrong and my phrase donโ€™t make sense, so I change the word that is wrong. Iโ€™m glad I donโ€™t have to do this every time ๐Ÿ˜…

Happy Translation Day. I also want to point out that sign language is a type of foreign language, because sign languages is used in all countries. I know a little bit of ASL. American Sign Language is only used in two countries..USA and Canada

Over all thanks for helping people with their Translations.
