Why do I keep loosing the lives that I have accumulated

How do you know if you're losing your stored life? Is there a reduction in the number that is indicated on the envelope? Did you open the envelope and check the number of lives saved?
For me, it looks like this when I open my game to claim the daily reward:
Then I go to the envelope to send lives to my teammates. The number of lives on my envelope does not change.
