Yes, you're completely right and one of many players who encounter that problem. Interestingly the dragon is always in the down left corner when this happens. @QueenB here is another one of those glitches.

Usually you need to win the first level of an episode to start the episode race. Then you need to complete the whole episode as the first player to win the race.
