I have noticed on friends saga that you lose all your lives after using 5 that have been sent

Hi @Graeme London and @PROUDCAGLEHEAD Yes that is how it work 5 lives are stored at a time after you accept them you will need to be sent more.   You can see more info here and you can also add your vote and comment to the ideas to have it store more than 5 at a time here
