I’m playing on an iPad and whenever the new Gamerhood add comes up there is no way back to the game no matter what I try or how long I wait.

I understand your frustration. I have some ads that do not close when they end. Sometimes I can tap the "back" button on my device and it will return me to the game. I have not seen the Gamehood ad, but I use this technique on Mountain Dew ads and it works. I hope it will work for you, too.
