Ok, I logged into community from my pc. I see my problem. When I log into community using my kindle device, and go to the Discussions tab, I don't see the green New Discussion button on the right hand side of the page. The reason is that I was holding my kindle in portrait (up and down) mode. When I rotate my kindle to landscape (side to side), I see New Discussion button and other features. Like I said before - I'm a newbie, but figured it out now. Thank you @Elsa and @Glenn1972 and @AbhinavSargar for you trying to help!
