I don't. I only have four hexes left because I don't intend to make it to the live finals. Just enjoy the ride and see where it takes meβ¦
Re: New: useless hints
Ah now that's a really interesting case, level 6000 @Peaches12 . As I can see from the YouTube videos it's been unchanged for many years, so this is an old level entirely written by humans and being a milestone level means it is meant to be passed by every player on every attempt. This is a perfect example to pick, so I have tested it out:
I had a colour bomb from the DailyTreat Machine here and so that's the first recommended move. A little later:
At this point I would strike the wrap+stripe combo but the computer seems to always choose the double wrap option over this, which also hits the key. But that in itself is interesting as it seems to add another layer to the hierarchy: 1. Wrap + wrap > 2. wrap + stripe. It's probably the case for all other levels as well.
Here another nonsense suggested move:
Playing the hinted combo I have circled in black here is nonsensical as it hits nowhere and misses the key. But: the end result is still a pass of the level. On one attempt following the hints blindly I was left a single jelly short, but nine times out of ten the hints still lead to a pass even though they seem to make no sense.
At the point when the colour bombs are released the game hints us to play the combo, which will finish the level in a pass.
This is why the jelly fish were created about a year ago: It is so that the app can ensure the desired (by King) outcome is achieved. These simple hint algorithms were likely used to test out every single level up and down the game by the AI at the time when these hints were introduced and when I created this thread: It was a simple method to test all 21,000 levels to weed out any levels that did not conform. Soon after this level 8061 was removed from the game, which is probably not a coincidence.
The app is in control of the game: It will decide when and if a player will pass a level by deciding when and if a lucky board will show up. In a lucky board these hinted moves actually do lead to a pass. I am certain that this overriding concept is now part of the basic game which links together all levels of the entire game into one unified (boring) mass. In order for this to work and for the AI to control the outcome of each board levels that rely on strategic thinking and that had some complexity have been removed and replaced by those with a simple structure and with a simple blocker bashing mechanism. It's the dumbing down of Candy Crush I have complained about for years and which is now almost complete.
In my All Stars journey I have to my delight come across a few relic levels in the 5000-9000 range which have so far escaped the AI and which cannot be beaten by the board being flooded with jelly fish. But I doubt that any of these levels will survive another year.
The end is nigh.
Re: New: useless hints
I just turn the hints off! I grew up with hints that seemed random, and the hints nowadays happen so fast that they distract me. I like being able to think in peace without the almost incessant flashing and bouncing.
Re: In app purhases
All Stars happens once a year. Everyone gets so much time to amass a treasure trove of boosters and gold bars. As long as they play the game right leading up to All Stars, non-paying players are hardly at a disadvantage during All Stars.
I say this as someone who hasn't spent any money on Candy Crush Saga. In less than a year, I amassed enough resources to crush candy for 24 hours straight in round 3 of the Final Knockouts. I won't be doing that, however, because I play the game quite casually and just for fun.
Also, think about it from King's perspective: it would be a bad business decision to shut off the revenue stream during the year's largest tournament.
