I'm unable to check this particular level as I am 600 levels behind, but based on a couple of videos I found I very much suspect that there's no magic trick to pass it. You are absolutely right in that the game has changed and now generally requires boosters and gold to progress, and this is especially true for the last 2,000 levels before the end of the game. Some of those levels are designed to be impossible in order to make players use up all their boosters and gold and start paying to advance. Unfortunately, a player without gold can't do much when they hit this wall of impossible levels. I will link a thread that explains the choices you have below.

It was fun while it lasted on my account. As I'm ending out the levels, I won't be able to explore it any further but at least got something great.

I'm also experiencing the same problem with the Star Tournament. Will this issue be fixed in the next one or the bug will persist? Because while it doesn't concern me now as it ends in 6 hours, not getting any progress on this from its levels makes it less enjoyable unless an event that can work with it is available.
