Are there settings on my iPad that I should change to receive the assists sent by my friends?

Are there settings that need to be changed on my iPad so I can receive the assists sent by my friends? I receive them sometimes but not others even though I see notices on Facebook that they have been sent.

No there's no options in the game that I've found anyway. Do you click on the notifications itself to accept them?

I have tried clicking on the notification itself and also just going to the game direct to see if it is there. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. And sometimes they show up hours later.
