Level 1326 and on, how to beat the clocks?

How to beat the clocks from  level 1326 and on? I somehow blow them up but do not know how it works exactly. What does it mean when it starts whirring? Is that the best time to hit it or hit it when it is calm?

To destroy a clock, you need to hit it five times with a matching row or a special candy. After the fifth hit, it disappears with a 5x5 explosion. 

When you see a spark on the clock, it means it can't spawn blockers for one move. When you see the clock face all pink with its hands spinning round, it's on its last legs, e.g. it'll be severely damaged or destroyed with the next hit. 

You can damage it with a lollipop hammer, sweet teeth or jelly fish. One booster per hit. Not worth using boosters, though. Just keep matching candies or do a special combo hit on the clocks until they're gone.   

TIP: If you're on a level that has 5-layered icing blocks and chocolate-spawning clocks, let the clocks do their jobs. Instead of hitting 5-layered icing blocks yourself, let the chocolate-spawning clocks take over those blocks. Once the blocks become chocolate, attack them and/or the clocks.
