Candy crush crashes as soon as I hit PLAY

I haven't been able to play Candy Crush for maybe a month now because it crashes as soon as I hit Play.  I have all the updates possible and enough room... I have more room now than when it used to play ok because I deleted some stuff. I've tried turning off device, restarting etc, everything and nothing helps.  The only reason I can think is does it need iOS 10 because my iPad can't get that. Only iOS 9. something. How are you supposed to get this kind of thing sorted? Nobody ever helps.

I have tried the troubleshooting and it doesn't help. I have an iPad mini with iOS 9.3.5 which should be ok.
