Why does Candy Crush require an internet connection to start up?

I have downloaded to play offline on a Windows 10 laptop.  Every time I try to start Candy Crush Soda Saga without an internet connection it shuts down.  If I connect the internet (I don't have to start IE or Facebook) it will start up.  I can then disconnect as soon as the level map loads.   I usually play offline and this problem started last week when I connected to save to facebook.

Is there some requirement that I have internet connection to play?

  • Hello Karen,

Normally your progress in the game is saved to a Kingdom or Facebook account, so the game needs to connect to obtain this information. If you are having issues with the game crashing then please follow the steps here:

This game ran for months without requiring to connect to the internet each time I open it; It was saving the level progress locally . If I understand your answer internet connection is required to run the game. BTW - I do not keep face book logged in and when it do connect to the internet to start up the game it is not connected to facebook. Most of the time I am playing the game I do not have access to the internet.
