Lost everything in the upgrades

A few weeks ago I got a notification to upgrade to get the new spring challenges. I've been able to do this before with no problems but this time was a disaster. All the lives my friends gave me were wiped out. All the boosters I've earned and paid for are gone. The only thing kept were gold bars and my level progression. Also there are no events displayed. I keep hoping the next upgrade will fix this. Has anyone else had this experience? I'd hate to loose everything.
