I am saving my game when asked while playing Candy Crush Saga but cannot locate the backup on the King website under my account.

When we save the, it won't be "backed up" anywhere in our computer system, but to the Game Server.
This makes it possible for us to open the game and play in on any device, by using the log-in details we used to save our game.
