As well as inviting players here in the community as Kiara suggested, I have found that inviting every player the game suggests and who is on your map or part of your group in an event or leaderboard competition will soon get you some friends. Whenever you invite people, most of them won't accept your invite, that is a fact. But the more you invite, the more friends will come to your game. So invite everyone whose player card you see and you can click on. Some of them will accept.

Adding friends in Candy Crush is quite simple. If you’re playing on a mobile device or through Facebook, you can connect your Candy Crush account to Facebook. This will automatically add your Facebook friends who are also playing Candy Crush to your game.
Another way to add friends is by sending them a game request through Candy Crush. This can be done from within the game itself. Simply navigate to the settings or friends icon, and you’ll find an option to invite friends through email or by sharing a link. Your friends can then click on the link, accept the invitation, and voila! They’ll appear on your friends’ list in the game.
