It has changed a lot! All the levels have been rewritten und it is more about playing boosters and gold bars wisely now than it used to be. After about level 200 some levels are impossible to pass without boosters by design: They are marked as "legendary" surrounded by fire. You need to keep on to your gold bars to pass these.
Download the app and the game will show you how to play initially. Don't spend any gold before level 200 and then only on legendary levels: the game will let you pass those with 10 gold bars by offering players up to a whopping 255 extra moves for 10 gold bars after so many attempts. Use the events wisely to gain boosters and use them wisely as you don't get very many for free.
