You are absolutely right and I am glad that you have figured it out! It is possible to change our name in Candy Crush Saga through our profile pic. Apologies for not responding to your post earlier!
I figured it out. If I try to change my name on my profile page, it doesn't change the game profile name. You need to tap on the profile picture at the top middle of the Map page, and you can edit the name there (pencil icon). You're welcome.
I have the same issue with my husband's name showing up on my Candy Crush game near my points (my profile picture), but my nickname still on my Profile. I log in with my King account, not Facebook.
