Disappearing gold bars

Why did my gold bars disappear? Didn’t use them after buying them but now they are gone. I’m about to quit playing the game. It’s getting so it’s impossible to win a game without purchasing and gold bars that have been bought disappear. Seems like just a money grab at this point.
