Same here, it's been a permanent 'feature' since the latest update.
No, I don't think it's a connection issue at all @QueenB, this has been a permanent feature in my game since the update last Monday. I posted about it here as well:

Seeing blank profile pictures in the Episode Race might be due to a temporary connection issue.
Try restarting your game or checking for updates. If the blank icons persist, it could be a minor glitch that might be resolved in a future update.
