This may well be so, if you have email notifications enabled. I chose to decline receiving emails from King and I know that receiving emails is not necessary to participate in All Stars.
This is false. I hadn't played CC in years, however got an email from King explaining the tourney. Hence, why I'm here now. So yes, they notify of events via email.
No King don't use emails for anything to do with Candy Crush. Every event, including All Stars, is automatically added to the app and will show up in player's games when they load the app. You do not need a valid email to play All Stars. I have a player who has qualified to play in All Stars Final Knockout Round 2 and who has never created a King account nor a Facebook account at all.
