I think King have now fixed this event. I have it in my game now and all the orders have been changed to require one less alien than there are on the board.

You could write to Player Support to ask for some refund, but they might not give you everything back. Try here:

So are you going to refund of the gold and all of the boosts that I used to try and finish the level?

You will have to quit and then replay the level. It only happens on first attempts. Check out the thread about this error at the top of this page.
