Super Charger use in Alien Invasion

I am trying to figure out what breaks this event. There is a theory that the use of super charger combos may cause the "not enough aliens" glitch. Still. Even though the event team have apparently reduced the alien order.

I did not want to risk losing my super charger as I'm playing in the Candy Cup. But on this board I assumed it would be safe. The order is for 9 aliens and I think there should be 12 hiding in those spaceships.

I am trying to work out here what actually happens when I strike this double super charger. The liquorice should all disappear. How many of the aliens will get released?

I failed to catch a screenshot of my next move, but two moves later I have this:

Two aliens were saved as the order now has gone down by two. But I now have just 8 on the board. I am lucky and can still pass this. But what happened to the missing two aliens? Can anyone explain what happened to the two aliens?
