500 Gold bars, 18 hrs of play time, 3 days of tools. Plus I lost all the other gold bars I had accumulated along with all the play time I hand, plus the tools

I would suggest you contact player support about this. Make sure you tell them your player ID. They can check what happened to your gold.

What did you spend this amount of money on? This game is free to play and to upgrade the app is free as well.

The star tournament is just something that fills the time while we wait for new levels. If the stars don't register it may be a glitch in the event, but the prize to be won is not really worth bothering with anyway.
