This may be a stupid question, but are you able to press the "claim" button? The "!" sign remains on the event icon/widget on the map screen until you claim the prize. If the ! icon shows then you have not claimed your prize yet. If you have lost your connection to the server you can't click on "claim" but the ! icon should remain until the end of the day.
If you claimed and the prize did not get added to your inventory then the event must have a glitch. I have not (yet) heard from others with this problem.
As always, if this has happened you could try complain to Player Support about it and they might give you some boosters as compensation.
