Apparently new levels come out every couple of weeks. Do we get new levels when nearing the end of the road’ or do we have to do the tournament.

The star tournament always finishes before new levels are released, because it's purpose is to fill the gap. But whether you play it or not does not affect release of new levels: they get released every week at the same time regardless.
Thanks. Last few times I have reached the end of the road and did not appear to get new levels till Star Tournament finished. I’ll see what happens this time.
We have told you this countless times:
60 new levels are released every week (not "apparently every couple of weeks", no one here ever said that).
All Players get the new levels if their app is up to date. They just appear in every player's game on a Wednesday if you have the app updated to the latest version.
No player has to play the star tournament. It is entirely voluntary.
I'm also about to finish out the levels soon. As Concert Chaos forced me to play 60 levels per playthrough and I play twice per day, I will have finished them by next week.
60 new levels are released on Wednesday (usually about 1:30 my time (GMT))
If you finish those levels within a week you can play the star tournament available at the end of the map (until early Wednesday morning (9am my time))
Star tournament can be used for most challenges (won’t count as new level wins though)
