How do I play without spending too much money?

I've been told to stop spending so much money on Candy Crush Saga!

Unfortunately, the game encourages you to spend a lot of money! How do I spend less?

I'm up to level 4834 at the moment.

Hello @TraceyLowndes . The game keeps changing but it is definitely still possible to play without spending any money.

The key to this is to budget gold and boosters wisely.

You need to win every episode race. That is the one most important aspect of playing without spending money. You need to earn the gold bar prize in one episode race which you can then "invest" to win the next episode race. There will be levels that require gold bars to pass, but only ever pay 10 gold to pass a level, never buy extra moves at the inflated price of 16 gold. If 10 is not enough then replay the level until the game offers you enough extra moves for 10 gold to pass. If you win 40 gold in the race then you will have 40 gold to buy your way out of four levels in the next race. That should be enough for the episodes you are playing at. Don't cling on to a win streak at all costs but know when to give up, replay levels until the game makes them easier to pass.

To win every episode race make sure you have the time to finish the race when you start it. So it's best and safest to play each episode in one sitting. One episode per day is the best way to play. If you play too much and pass too many levels very quickly then the game will make winning events harder for you. But the opposite is also true: For example if you do not play for an entire week the game is likely to give you easy opponents in the weekly contest the following week. So it can be a good idea to not play every day or even pause for two weeks. This way you can trick the game into thinking you are about to give up and it will then give you better rewards to help your game and easier opponents in events.

Use boosters wisely: The game boards are set up so that boosters will only help pass a level if played at the right time. That is almost always the first two moves or near the end when there are about 4 moves left to play, but not in the middle part of any level. Don't waste boosters on a hopeless cause.

If you spend money on Candy Crush ask yourself if you can afford it and if you get value for money. If you are rich and enjoy playing the game there is no problem. But if you spend more than you can afford or if playing is not fun any more, then you might want to consider giving the game a very long break and see what else life has to offer you.
