Nothing has changed

I've only been playing this game for a little over a year. It started off being fun, and as expected, the higher the levels you can get through, the harder it is to play. I have been lucky enough to have gold bars to help me, and that's only because I either win the races or sometimes I'm lucky to fill the candy box in time to win bars. But, it takes me all day to get through the episode race, and that's if after using tons of bars. The game is definitely about paying money to get extra bars, which I have no intention to do so. I don't understand why the developers of this game think it's a good idea to make people pay to play!!! Someone needs to bring back the fun in playing this game, because I don't feel like I will stick around much longer if things don't change!

I dont think I implied you did , if thats the way it came across , apologies . What I did imply is that the same tactics are employed by Candy Crush to keep players playing.

And of course these games should be fun and not impossible and for some ( probably more than you think) , fun turns into an impossible obsession

The simple answer to that @stephanie2024 is that if none of the players' of Candy Crush used money to play then Candy Crush would not exist.

Okay, I know you mean that the business side and the drive to get players to spend money hasn't changed, that is true. However in the actual game so much has changed during 2025 I do not know where to begin.

The game is now run entirely by AI which gives each player those events and features that their programme thinks will make them the most likely to spend money. The AI is still learning and getting a lot wrong at the moment. It is naturally very difficult if not impossible for an AI to factor in the "fun" element. In my view the AI has so far been getting it very much wrong on the "fun" issue. It still fails to get the player satisfaction element right for many of us.
The new jelly fish were introduced in 2025. These have made a huge difference to how each level plays out now. The app/programme/AI/King has taken over more and more control over each level. The outcome of each board is tightly controlled by the programming. The jelly fish ensure that the level outcome written into the programme is achieved, regardless of what moves the player makes.
Events have become more bespoke to each player and controlled by the programme. We are given opponents to match our own playing style. (For example we usually find that in every leaderboard there is always one other player hard to catch, no matter how good we ourselves are at the game.)

King is a money making business. So of course the aim of the game is to get every player to spend some money! Clever players can make a lot of free gold bars early on in the game, but anyone who has a big gold reserve will eventually hit a wall that will make them unable to progress unless they spend their gold. King monitor your gold balance and your spending history. Players with a big gold reserve will be given fewer free treats and events will be harder to win so that they will spend their gold bars. Those who do spend money will usually get fewer free treats in order for them to spend more money. This can escalate and lead some people to spend a lot more than they can afford.

My advice to all this has not changed: If you enjoy playing, can afford to spend money and feel you get value for money then there is nothing wrong with spending money. If you find you are not getting value for money then don't spend anything. Only pay for a game that is fun to play.

On a grander scale, if everyone followed that advice then the AI would learn from this and probably make the game more fun again for everyone.

The answer for you personally might be to give the game a long break for a few weeks. The app will sense you are about to give up and there is a chance it will then help you to enjoy the game again. So long as you have some gold bars all is not lost. But you need to understand how the app works, how it manipulates players and then use that knowledge to beat the app. Pausing to play for a few weeks might actually help and make your game fun again.

I wouldn't consider myself having a gambling problem, since I never have, or will I spend money to play ANY game. I know many people who play this game, and I know they pay for gold bars, but none of them have a gambling problem. Bottom line, this game should be fun to play, not impossible to play!

I used to be in the 1000s for years from 2019 until 2025 where I found the way to progress it and now I'm without levels for a whole week.

Its a scam . They want to get you addicted . I have been playing since 2018 and am on level 3786. I hate to admit that yes I have spent money on this game and it really doesnt matter how many gold bars you buy to convert into boosters or whatever else they get sucked up very quickly. I have had levels that I have used 2 of those pinatas or whatever else they call them plus a hammer or 2 . Here in Ontario Canada 1000 gold bars cost 129.99 plus 13% HST for a grand total of 146.89 and thats the best deal they offer . It works out to 15 cents per gold bar. Do the math and see how much all their extra moves and boosters really cost . The party pinata if you go for the bulk deal is 10 of them for 219 gold bars. And that comes out to 10 pinatas for 32.85 . Yup 3.28 per pinata to clear a level and there is nothing to say that pinata will clear the level completely . Some levels require you to collect or clear almost 200 orders and they give you 15 moves LOL. I just completed the winter cup and placed like 8th the person that won it had a final blue candy count of around 105 000 and it must have cost him/her probably a grand to complete that in that heated competition. Take a breath and look out the window and ask yourself What have I accomplished ? If you play the game seriously and really pay attention to the offers that come up when you lose a level and every other aspect of how the game is structured you will see all the psychological tricks they use to get you hooked and keep you hooked.Here in Ontario probably 75% of the ads on radio and TV are promoting online gambling and after each ad they have a disclaimer and a number to call if you have a gambling problem but in reality they count on the problem gamblers for most of the money they make .
