Oh no! I have gone back to my testing obsession…. For a short while anyway. But so long as the makers of Candy Crush keep bringing out new features I feel like I need to test them out.
This one is very unpopular as it thwarts players whose strategy is to click through failed levels until they are given a free pass with hundreds of extra moves. Now at last I'm seeing this feature in one of my games.
I had indefinite lives from the team event (so it was good for testing purposes if nothing else). This is a screenshot of the offers seen on the wheel as it spins:
First test: Legendary level 1625:
The first attempt was a close fail (2 short of the order) 5 extra moves were offered and would have been enough. I declined the offer and continued to press "replay" until I passed.
Attempts 2-9:
Each time the wheel stopped on +10 so I was offered +15 moves plus a booster, regardless of how close I was to passing. The first five times a UFO was added. The next two a stripe or colour bomb was added to the +15 moves. 9th attempt a UFO again.
10th attempt I was able to pass with no help.
Unmarked level 1636
First attempt failed, I now deliberately failed this level to see if the offer would be different for levels that are meant to be easy.
2. +15
3. +20 +fish
4. +20 + UFO
5. +20 + fish
6. + 15 + CB
7. +20 + fish
8. by this time I had lost my indefinite lives and this was my last life effort: I was offered the fishing boat and played all three starting boosters. Normally this would help me pass. I deliberately failed to see what the game would offer me:
Bingo!
The wheel landed on the top prize!
I didn't pay of course.
So for today testing is over.
My verdict:
- Nothing is random about the wheel, obviously
- Legendary levels will give players the same offer repeatedly . In this case it was +15 moves +booster
- Levels we are meant to pass: The wheel will help us to pass by choosing an obvious winning offer
- I don't think the app takes into account our gold balance in its decision
- I don't think the app takes into account how close we got to passing in its decision (in fact I'm pretty sure it does not "know" how close we got)
- The app appears to take into account the fishing boat offer, which may trigger a better offer
I suspect this wheel is here to stay. Too many players have figured out how to use the increasing extra moves offers and beat the game that way. The app is trying to take back control over our gold usage. It might also be a method by the app to stop players using a favourite All Stars exploit. However there remain a gazillion ways to beat the app for those who understand the algorithms. Personally I quite like the change. Trying to work out the patterns and using my head to beat the app brings a little bit of strategy back into the game. (Please don't rip my head off for saying this, but offering +255 moves to everyone for 10 gold was just too dumb)
