I really worked hard winning over 300 levels so one time I came 2nd and I was immediately put back down to zero. I find this really unfair to lose the whole lot at once, ok punish by losing 5 levels for example but to lose the lot after weeks and weeks of playing the game is so annoying

Force close apps and restart your device.
Check that you have the latest game and device updates
You need a strong connection wi fi is better and at least 2gig of free memory then clear the game cache as overloaded cache can create issues
Android: Settings > Apps > Candy Crush Soda > Storage > Clear Cache
iOS: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data
