Um. Just discovered this "game". It is an interesting and entertaining experience but is it a game? I get the feeling that I am not actually in control. I am prompted to line up three sweet-looking shapes. Something happens (a pink creature is released) or nothing happens (some shapes shuffle about). After a number of such prompted manoeuvres I am informed that I have reached the end of that level or I am several items short. Am I missing something? Should I be ignoring the prompt and manipulating different things to get a better result?

Great, then I'm too late with my tips on the first 200 levels. Please read my last post below anyway, since it sums up the game for what it is.

Enjoy the game and just be aware that the events are all illusions of some sort. Read the info for them. It actually tells you that the other players in the episode race are recordings, for example.

Make as much gold as you can now. This is a good time to start playing because the levels are being made easier at the moment. So make lots of gold bars and have fun!

Maybe I was a bit harsh with that previous answer, after all I'm still playing this game and kind of enjoying it. However, the kind of new player this app is trying to attract at the moment is those with a mental ago of around 10 (though the app is strictly only for people over the age of 13) and it shows in the way the first 200 levels and the events are introduced.

The first 50 levels are pure training. Just follow the hints and learn what the special candies and boosters do.

After that you get something called the Episode Race, which is a fake event you will win initially and it will give you some gold bars to spend later on. You will need to spend gold bars on levels 90 and 114, because those cannot be passed without extra moves.

There are over 23,000 levels of the game, most of them pretty similar to one another. If you enjoy figuring out algorithms and trying to beat the app, which is run by an AI, then you might enjoy this game. Make sure you spend gold only on levels 90 and 114, and make as much of it as you can, because eventually you'll need it to buy extra moves for those levels that do not allow you to pass.

The outcome of all the levels is precisely determined by an algorithm set by the AI. Each level requires either a specific booster or extra moves paid with gold to pass, and some levels are just so easy to pass they pass by themselves. The outcome of each level is pre-determined the moment the board loads, so if you are meant to pass you'll pass easily and if you are meant to fail you'll need to either use a booster, gold bars for additional moves, or replay the level a few times to get a luckier board.

Okay, that is because the app controls the game, so what you are seeing is the app teaching you how to move candies about in order to enjoy the game. If you don't like being manipulated like that then Candy Crush is probably not the right game for you. Players are tasked to earn gold and boosters and then use these to pass levels, but essentially the app controls it all. It's not a puzzle game. It's about making gold and beating fake other players in fake events.

If you are just trying to make a joke about the banality of the app, then nice try! Unfortunately we are seeing a lot of posts that don't make sense these days, so it isn't always obvious who is being serious and who is taking the Mickey.
