@Gnomey Hi and welcome, what device are you playing on ? . i have seen this on laptop/ pc and been caused due to windows updating. If your on PC can you check that your not installing any windows or game updates as this can cause this problem. Also make sure you log out and restart your device to ensure any updates reach your device

System has updated, was turned off overnight still nothing

I had this error message the other day. It took a few minutes and then things were fine.
Hello @Gnomey and a very warm welcome to our wonderful King Community! Sometimes the King servers are updating or there is a temporary delay with their service (vanilla). Just give it a few minutes and hopefully you will be able to play the game again.
In the mean time it never hurts to clear your cache, make sure you game and software is up to date and turn off your device for 10-15 seconds and then restart it and see if you can now play the game again.
