Love the new Candy necklace!

I am curious about something. I know that there are times when some players have challenges or other bonus opportunities that are not available to all players. I am wondering if this was true of the bot or space dash. There are several people who have commented that they like the new candy necklace. I wanted to know if those that like this had the bot or space dash before. If you did, can you tell me what you like about the necklace. From what I have seen the necklace is substantially inferior to either the bot or space dash. I am trying to figure out if there is something about the necklace that I am missing or not seeing how to utilize it fully. What I think the necklace does is that when you pass a level (and only new levels since I have tried to see if passing an older level added a booster on the necklace and it does not appear to do that) you gain one booster on the necklace. Each additional new level passed on the first try will gain you an additional booster. If you do not pass a level, all boosters that had been earned on the necklace are lost. Is my understanding of this correct?
