At the moment episode race is only the free way to win gold bars from the game. Or you may purchase the gold bars. Piggy bank is a very good low budget option.

There are not many ways to get gold bars these days. The contests are fun and you can hope to win some there. The best way is to win the episode race, that will give you 5. Good luck.
@Shawn200 Hi and welcome. If you have episode race in your game you can gain gold bars from this. There are two versions being tested. the normal one is 5 gold for finishing 1st 3 gold for second and 1 gold for 3rd and the other version is 10 for 1st , 5 for 2nd and 1 for third. other than this from time to time you will find different events in the game that offer gold bars as rewards.
And as above there are always contests in the community with the chance to win gold bars for your game
