I had 14 lives, to my knowledge have not used any, but now have only four. I can see in advertently using five lives to continue a level, but I doubt that I would have inadvertently done it twice. What happened to my lives???

I understood that the lives stored in your message box were missing and as mentioned by Mr Freddy, it is not recoverable and the only way is to send request again and hopefully, your friends will respond back.
In my situation, I would exit my game in my mobile and log in my game in FB in my computer via Chrome. Once I've used up my live there, I will log out and log in to my FB in different browser. I would go back to my mobile app once I'm done playing in my computer and repeat the steps again. I would normally apply these if I'm desperate to clear a level or I want to make use of any timed lives and/or boosters.
Thus, you may want to try out the above if you are in my situation. If you do, please remember to log out from the game before sign in to ensure that your level is sync properly.

Unfortunately as these are a free gift there is nothing that can be done in regards of getting lives back, but you can start collecting again, but we advise not to store to many as there are many reasons these can disappear, some of which are out of kings control

Unable to purchase
Anyone else have an issue with the booster wheel not letting you spin? Mine says come back in xxx hours for the next spin, but the next spin never comes. I am so stuck on level 7280 and I need some booster help!!
