New people showing up and bumping me down on the weekly progress ladder

The last few weeks, entirely NEW PEOPLE are showing up when I check my status on the weekly progress. They are NOT my FB friends, I don't even know they. Why are they showing up and - pushing me down the progress?

You just play more levels to stump them down and earn the first position back.
