I am very careful not to open too many mystery candies so I have something to work with, but all my turns are used up just getting a couple of popcorns, have no idea where to go from here?
Don't be careful. You need to get them all open as quickly as possible then concentrate on popping twos together so that you can start off a chain of 2 x colourbomb combos. That's the only possible route to success here. It may take lot of attempts to get just the right chain of events but if you stick to your current method it will never happen!
